BGMU has 2 internships available for college students currently enrolled in a geographic information science (GIS) program or an engineering program (civil preferred). Candidates must be enrolled in a college or university in the preceding spring semester and the following fall semester.

BGMU is recruiting for two temporary internship positions.  Positions are temporary in nature. Starting date is flexible, commencing on or after July 1, 2018 and ending on or before June 30, 2019. Typical schedule will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. 

GIS Internship:  For students currently enrolled in geographic information science program to fill one GIS internship position.   Duties will include field data collection, data entry and analysis, and scanning/digitizing documents. Attention to detail, working knowledge of GPS equipment, and a solid understanding of GIS are required. Specific activities, under the guidance and supervision of BGMU’s GIS Administrator, may include assisting in maintaining and editing water-wastewater infrastructure data within the Esri ArcGIS Enterprise system; collecting GPS data for new water meter installations, new wastewater connections, undocumented water assets, and undocumented wastewater assets; data entry and editing within the ArcGIS Enterprise System for water and wastewater assets, new infrastructure, and other asset management data.  Intern will utilize BGMU’s Esri ArcGIS Online maps and application platform.

Project Management: For students currently enrolled in any engineering discipline, or construction management studies to fill one summer internship position.  Students currently enrolled in civil engineering are preferred.   Intern will work under the supervision of the wastewater system Project Manager. Duties will include field investigations and data analysis. Strong computer and math skills are required. Specific activities may include:

  1. Capital Project Management:   Assist Engineering Project Managers in planning and execution of capital projects for the wastewater collection system including preparation of bid documents, measurement of wastewater flows, assimilation and preparation of data for construction plans and specifications, preparation of construction plans and specifications, inspection of construction in progress.
  2. Long Range Planning: Assimilating and preparing data for updating BGMU’s Wastewater Facility Plan and Asset Management Software. Collect additional data pictures, serial numbers, and miscellaneous data for Asset Management Software.
  3. Hydraulic analysis: Gather and analyze data to investigate areas of possible surface and groundwater inflow and infiltration. Assist Inflow/Infiltration coordinator with job duties, and additional testing to find possible sanitary sewer cross connections.
