Purpose: Proper real estate assessment begins with knowing where the real estate is located, including its size, shape, and frontage and verifying all property is accounted for. This makes accurate maps a top priority.
Duties: Verify Real Estate legal descriptions on various legal documents with the matching PVA Parcel ID, update data with ArcGIS due to property splits, mergers and boundary line shifts, update property addresses, assist the public and other governmental agencies as necessary while maintaining a close working relationship with all other Jefferson County PVA departments. Ability to research the title history of a parcel by utilizing office resources as well as recorded documents in the Jefferson County Clerk’s office.
Requirements: Good working understanding of Real Estate legal descriptions in combination with knowledge of various types of legal documents including deeds, contracts, mortgages, surveys, subdivision plats, ordinances, judgments and wills is required. Computer knowledge is a must, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Sharepoint, etc. Working knowledge of ArcGIS software is a plus, but training may be provided. If you can read a legal description and visualize its shape and size and draw it by hand, you can learn our mapping program.
