My name is William Andrews, my friends call me Drew. I am a geologist and Section Head for Geologic Mapping at the Kentucky Geological Survey at UK. I have been an active user and producer of GIS since 1996. Throughout that time, I have clearly seen that Kentucky has been at the forefront of digital mapping because of the deep commitment of mapping professionals across multiple sectors of the Commonwealth. The strength of this community has been of tremendous professional and technical benefit for my own professional tasks of generating high-quality digital geologic map products for research grants and applied contracts, and helping others use geologic map data in their professional/technical work.

I view my nomination for President-Elect of KAMP as an opportunity to give back to the community that has benefited me so greatly. Following a lapse of membership, I have been a supportive member of KAMP since 2015. Prior to this, I actively engaged with KAMP to help develop a statewide geospatial strategic plan that inspired progress on statewide digital map standards and led to KAMP having formal representation on the state Geographic Information Advisory Council.

I have served as a Director on the KAMP Executive Board since January 2019. If I am elected, I will work to leverage the professional expertise and community of KAMP to help further expand professional development opportunities for professionals and GIS students, improve communication between GIS practitioners and stakeholders, and increase outreach with geospatial information to support improved decision-making in the Commonwealth.
