Tobey Adams is the Senior GIS Analyst for Kentucky American Water, the largest, investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water service to approximately half a million people in portions of 14 counties, including Fayette. In this role he gathers, converts, analyzes, and reports GIS data to maintain operational standards for the engineering and operations teams.
Adams has been with Kentucky American Water for nearly 21 years and has extensive experience in mapping and designing in AutoCAD, including a background in mechanical drafting. He has spent the last 11 years with Kentucky American Water working with various GIS applications, such as ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, and Online. He has overseen the growth of the capabilities and size of the GIS department within Kentucky American Water.
Adams holds an associate’s degree from Hazard Community & Technical College in occupational studies, with an emphasis on architectural drafting. He also holds a GIS certification from the University of West Florida.
Adams has served as a presenter at KAMP conferences on the use of the ArcGIS online system to create maps that can be used as public education tools. As a member of the KAMP board of directors, Adams would like to see the organization work with school systems to introduce geography and GIS concepts to students.
