HOUR OF CODE FOR ALL KENTUCKY SCHOOLS
National Computer Science Education week is December 7-13, 2015. KSTC encourages every Kentucky school to sign up for the global Hour of Code. This can be a school-wide event or a teacher registering a single event. Please reach out to schools in your community to encourage them sign up.
There are tremendous resources available at Code.org to jump start this in any classroom or after school activity. It is easy to sign up at Hour of Code (HOC). Anyone may use these links to SIGN UP and try out current HOC tutorials or SHARE HANDOUTS. To see how many Kentucky events have registered select ‘KY’ at this LISTING OF ALL EVENTS.
Code.org offers numerous tutorials for ALL ages to use for any type of event. HOW TO TEACH One Hour of Code is a handy reference for the curious but inexperienced – with tutorials to match. Once someone signs up and registers an event, they will be notified by Code.org when it has released new tutorials for 2015.
Companies can sign up to help expand coding experiences by reaching out to assist local teachers with their HOC, or perhaps host an Hour of Code Happy Hour at their company. A messaging toolkit for this purpose is available here.
Kentucky is seeing an uptick in the offerings and participation in AP Computer Science classes as a result of Kentucky’s policy under which this course can count as a required math credit toward high school graduation – making Kentucky among the states leading the nation to “make coding count” toward graduation.
Participating in Hour of Code is a step everyone can take. Let’s Keep Coding!
