MEMBERSHIP ISSUES
In a wide-ranging discussion of membership issues, led primarily by Marc Pearson, KAMP Treasurer, shortcomings in the current membership renewal process were reviewed and several suggestions for revision were contemplated. Although no decisions were made, the feasibility and functionality of a largely automated, web-based membership roll were considered at some length. Ideally, such a membership roll would give us accurate, real time membership counts, perhaps combined with one-year rolling memberships not tied to any particular term or expiration date. The ideas discussed were intriguing, but there was also a sense that steps should be taken in the short run to improve the accuracy of the membership roll while the full development of a web-based membership renewal system continues.
The suggestion of staggering membership renewals so that all renewals do not come due on the same date, led to a careful reading of KAMP By-Law III on Membership Terms. Even with the current fixed membership year, this by-law was deemed to be a bit less precise than might be desired. Stephen Berry, KAMP President-Elect, offered to prepare a revised By-Law III for consideration at our next meeting.
KAMP corporate memberships also came under scrutiny, and it was noted that the current membership records make it difficult to keep track of changing corporate representatives. It was also observed that corporate members were often encouraged to name three representatives under a single corporate membership, although the KAMP Constitution (Art II, Sec 4) provides for only one representative per corporate membership.
KAMP ANNUAL MEETING
President Ellington reviewed plans for the KAMP Annual Meeting to be held on Monday, 7 July, at 6:00 pm, in conjunction with the Ky GIS conference, at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington. Noting that this Annual Meeting will mark KAMP’s fifth anniversary, President Ellington suggested that a group photograph of all the KAMP members in attendance might be an appropriate anniversary commemorative. All agreed, and President Ellington offered to work out the details. She also volunteered to make arrangements for a KAMP display booth at the Ky GIS conference.
The meeting of the Executive Board of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals was adjourned at 11:54 am.
