Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is seeking a GIS Analyst to have primary responsibility for mapping and spatial analysis activities required for regulatory and research projects in the wildlife and environmental fields. Projects will include, but are not limited to, bat surveys, vegetation delineation, habitat assessments, water resources, and wildlife ecology research. Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in GIS, cartography, computer science, geography, or other GIS related field OR a GIS certificate from an accredited institution. A minor or emphasis in Environmental Studies/Natural Resources is a plus. One to three years of professional experience is desired but willing to train the right person.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in and knowledge of ArcGIS and spatial analysis using ArcGIS desktop software.
- Basic cartography principles and Map Production using ArcGIS, including Data Driven Pages
- Strong knowledge of ArcGIS extensions, including Spatial Analyst
- Familiarity with Model Builder and scripting languages such as Python to automate repetitive desktop GIS tasks is a plus
- Experience with relational database models (preferably SQL Server) in GIS is a plus
- Experience with remote sensing and image classification a plus
- Ability to apply a high level of creativity and innovation to GIS analysis in support of environmental projects
- Ability to work without direct supervision for extended periods of time while remaining motivated and efficient
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively explain GIS technology needs and opportunities to co-workers who are familiar with GIS and to those who are not
- Ability to work with co-workers to develop maps and analysis for projects
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing objectives and priorities
- Ability to be a problem-solver and innovative
- Passion and understanding of how to effectively apply technology as a “means to an end” for solving problems and accomplishing goals
- Working knowledge of Trimble Pathfinder Office and TerraSync is desirable
- Employment for this position is contingent upon proof of US citizenship for work on government contracts
The job responsibilities for this position include:
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of the GIS program
- Prepare paper and electronic figures for reporting purposes, field efforts, and agency coordination
- Work with project managers to develop spatial analysis techniques that support consulting and research efforts
- Oversee Geospatial Data Management
- Use of Python and/or Model Builder to create workflows
- Analyze and edit spatial and tabular data for reporting purposes and research
- Use of image classification techniques to perform desktop habitat analysis
- Create and update GIS data layers
- GIS relational database design, development, implementation, administration and maintenance
- Aiding in ongoing and future analysis of research data, with the initiative to develop effective methods for these analyses
