Geoprocessing Specialist II
Do you love both mapping and nature? The Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves (KNP) is the Commonwealth’s clearinghouse for natural areas and rare species information. We are now looking for someone to join our team of data specialists, scientists and land managers as a Geoprocessing Specialist II. This position will work within the Biological Assessment Branch on OKNP’s Geographic Information System program, including Biotics5 and the
Kentucky Biological Assessment Tool (KY-BAT). This is a critical position needed to comply with both federal and other projects.
Responsibilities include:
• Manages software to meet Nature Preserves staff Geographic Information System (GIS) biological application needs.
• Provides support and training for the geographic database and map generation systems.
• Assists with the compilation, conversion, modification, & enhancement of computer maps for biodiversity information.
• Assists with development of agency standards, policies, and procedures in the development of a geographic information system.
• Analyzes mapping and designs systems.
• Assists with development of intricate 4th generation (macro) programs.
• Provides detailed specifications to programmers.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Applicant must have successfully completed six semester hours in computer science, data processing, or geographic information system courses.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years experience in geoprocessing.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master’s of science degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: One year experience in geoprocessing will substitute for the six semester hour requirement. Experience in manual mapping techniques, photogrammetry, or land surveying will substitute for the bachelor’s degree on the basis of 18 months experience for one year of education.
