The work we do at the Kentucky Division for Air Quality has a direct impact on the health, welfare, and economic security of all Kentuckians. We currently have an opening for a Geoprocessing Specialist II in the Director’s Office. Under general supervision, this position will utilize geographic information systems (GIS) hardware and software to perform complex GIS activities. 

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Design GIS systems and coordinate the creation, testing, installation, and training of programs to accomplish geographic analyses
  • Provide primary data development and maintenance of DAQ special databases and ensure edits are made in accordance with approved standards and technical requirements
  • Provide quality control and resolve data conflicts
  • Produce computer models using digital spatial and tabular information
  • Act as DAQ spatial database librarian responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of spatial databases

Minimum Requirements:

 

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Applicant must have successfully completed six semester hours in computer science, data processing, or geographic information system courses.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years’ experience in geoprocessing.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master’s of science degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: One-year experience in geoprocessing will substitute for the six-semester hour requirement. Experience in manual mapping techniques, photogrammetry, or land surveying will substitute for the bachelor’s degree on the basis of 18 months experience for one year of education.
