GIS Technician – Bowling Green, KY

GIS TECHNICIAN

This position evaluates, develops, and maintains data related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position will generate custom maps, perform GPS data collection, assist with data conversion from source documents, and provide staff support with retrieving and analyzing GIS based data. The ideal candidate will have advanced education in Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, or related field and experience using ESRI ArcGIS. Experience with AutoCAD is desirable.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

POSITION: GIS Technician

EDUCATION: Advanced Education in Civil or Sanitary Engineering or Engineering Technology, Geography, Computer Science, CAD, or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Must have two years experience in the use and application of ESRI ArcGIS software. Proficient in the use and application of other ESRI software and GPS data collection equipment.

KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of accepted GIS standards and procedures. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of ArcGIS 9.x. Must have a working knowledge and understanding of computer-aided mapping, records management, and associated software such as MS Access, Excel, and Trimble GPS software. Fundamental knowledge and skill in the operation of GIS equipment, including computer hardware, plotter/printer setup, and GPS. Must have ability to read and decipher construction plans and drawings. Working knowledge of AutoCad and drafting standards a plus. Should be willing to attend courses related to work. Programming experience a plus, but not required. Knowledge of surveying practices and procedures, as well as water and sewer system design and construction desirable.

ABILITIES Must be able to work without direct supervision.
AND SKILLS: Must be able to maintain accurate records. Must be able to work with a team, as well as individually. Must be willing to learn new techniques and procedures in GIS and GPS technologies. Must be interested in development of the Water District, in self-development, and in engineering work assigned.

WORKING Must be able to work inside or outside as required.
CONDITIONS: Must keep work area in a neat and presentable manner. Must be physically able to remove and replace manhole covers in excess of 170 lbs.

OTHER: Must have a valid driver's license.
